20. The Black Hole | Beyond The Firmament: Tales From The Cosmos

Beyond The Firmament

Tales From The Cosmos

20. The Black Hole

- Written by Gift C Enyadike Jr

You recall that I said Sevaasi's whispers had reached the stars that remained such and the ones who birthed them, Kallor and Kibet. The question asked of them was not of serving the humans, the beings of dust, for that was never their purpose.

No, the question asked of them was the same he asked of himself, of the hosts that followed him, and of you, my Acolytes:

"Why can't you have more?"

So what was "more"? They had birthed all the stars, among whom rose to become the Heavenly Hosts. They had been with Da Vaada since the beginning. They had witnessed Da Suun, who was Da Vaada. It is by their union that you, who were made in his image, have a Sun and, therefore, a livable world to call your home.

That was it. That was the problem. They did not want to rule. They wanted a child! A real child!

And they would have one.

But they were afraid. After the fall of Sevaasi and his host, and the curses that fell upon man, they could not face Da Vaada and dare to ask.

So they hid among the very stars they had birthed and made what would be their final union. It took all of their essence, and they ceased to be. In their place was a star of pure white light, burning brighter than any before, only outclassed by what had once been the Morning Star.

This new star dwarfed all the others in size, a true titan among the gigantic celestial bodies.

It was too big, too hot, and it collapsed. Soon, all of its light and warmth were gone, and so it hungered for more and began to devour its brethren, pulling them into its gaping maw. This was the first black hole.

Da Vaada would, once again, feel a great sorrow.

For their silent witness, even the stars would know death. The largest among them would suffer the same fate as their sibling. Collapsing and hungering for the radiance that once made up their very beings. The rest, like the humans and beasts of Teyra, would become dust.

But, in the absence of Kallor and Kibet, they would learn to birth themselves.

The dust and gas from dead stars would gather and reform into new stars, as it is to this day.
