Beyond The Firmament

Tales From The Cosmos

31. Addiction

- Written by Gift C Enyadike Jr

Emotar stood before the throne, shielding his face before Da Vaada. The arch-angels, Huun and Laam, the arbiter, Diohlatas, the Jarwa and all the highest of the Heavenly Hosts were there.

"What have you done?"

"I have done as you have charged."

"Have you?"

"Yes."

"Have you counted?"

"That is not my charge."

"What is your charge?"

"I carry. I do not count."

"Why do you not count?"

"I am not you. I could not."

"Yet you have stood in my place."

"I have not."

"Then where are they?"

"Are they not where you are not? Perhaps in the mouth of the beast?"

"They are not."

"How do you know?"

"Who am I?"

"You are the Father."

"I Am. And I give you a new charge. You will find them."

"I cannot."

"You cannot?"

"They are gone."

"Where did they go?"

"I took them, as the beast takes the stars, as I have taken the disruptor's kin."

"And why have you done this?"

"They were sinners. They would not be missed."

"Then you have stood in my place."

"I have."

"And you will stand in theirs."

"Is that my charge?"

"It was not."

"And what of the disruptor?"

"You are the disruptor."

And then Huun, Laam, Diohlatas, the Jarwa and the highest of heavenly hosts took him, and he fell into Pla'daali, deeper than all who had entered, due to the weight of his gluttony, which would become his name, or Eten (Eater).

He screamed, Sevaasi laughed, and Da Vaada felt a great sorrow.

The hosts who were there would take his place. Their number equal to the souls that were never judged. They would now be called Emotar.
