Beyond The Firmament
Tales From The Cosmos
42. Huun and Laam
- Written by Gift C Enyadike Jr
The cosmos had gone dark. The stars slept. Makar Joga was on the hunt, but not for them. Not even for the defiant who refused to die and therefore refused to sleep. The only one that still shone. No, its target was the Archangel Laam, who continued to lead it away from the Chiliad Front.
Laam took care to stay just out of the serpent's reach, or it would devour him and go back for the Titaness. At the same time, he never let himself gain too much distance, or it would forget him... and go back for the Titaness.
They were headed for the defiant star, the one refusing its death, which had awakened the beast in the first place. All he had to do was get out of the way in time, and it would swallow the star, which would force the creature to go back to sleep.
And then a new problem emerged. The Paadlan were blocking his path and blocking the star's light. Thousands upon thousands upon tens of thousands. Normally, they would never dare to approach him. In fact, they were utterly terrified of him. They never forgot how easily he dealt with their master, Sevaasi. Whenever he was sent, any so-called "spiritual warfare" ended. And yet...
"You are in my way!"
Yes, they were. On orders from Sevaasi. Makar Joga could only see the radiance of stars and the star-born hosts. As they were servants of he, Duuskor, who had long since lost all radiance, the Paadlan were invisible to the beast.
All they had to do was keep the archangel occupied, impede him long enough for the serpent to fully close in, and Sevaasi would finally have his revenge against the one who thwarted his taking of the throne. The Paadlan present would be caught in the beast's maw and annihilated as well, but such an opportunity could not be wasted. We who know would call this group Oztāpo (Obstructors).
If they are worthy of nothing else, and they are not, give them your pity.
The next one to speak was not Laam, but the Archangel Huun, the messenger, the voice, who had appeared beside him.
"Shall we share, brother?"
"We shall!"
Their combined light allowed them to pick up speed, while still holding the serpent's attention. It would continue to follow them as they charged into the swarm of beasts who had once been their brethren with spear and sword.
"The Father desires you gone..." said Huun.
"SOOOOO BEEEEEGOOOOOOOOONE!!!!" roared Laam.
I could not do this battle justice.
When it was over, the Oztāpo did not have enough left to block out the defiant star's light. The ones that remained scattered and hid as Makar Joga swallowed it and returned to the depths of space to renew its slumber.
The stars awoke, and the universe was illuminated once more. The scattered Oztāpo now had nowhere to hide, so they continued to flee.
With the serpent slumbering, the archangels, Huun and Laam, no longer needed to hold back.
They would not let a single Oztāpo escape. By the will of Da Vaada.
